WHAT DOES BAPTISM MEAN?
Water baptism is far more than a ritual or religious exercise; it’s a public, outward declaration that reflects a personal, inward faith. Some liken it to a wedding ring – an outward symbol of commitment you make in your heart.
WHAT METHOD OF BAPTISM DO WE USE?
We use immersion. That means you will go completely under the water and come back up. With immersion baptism, you are showing people that all your past sins are buried with Jesus. When you come out of the water, you are saying that Jesus has given you a new life.
WILL BAPTISM HELP YOU GO TO HEAVEN?
Baptism isn’t an act that gets us into heaven – it is faith in Jesus that offers that assurance. However, baptism does not secure a relationship with God. A relationship with God happens only by grace through your faith in Jesus and what He did for you on the cross.
HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO BE BAPTIZED?
You don’t have to be a certain age to be baptized. However, children need to be able to verbally express their desire to follow God and that they understand what baptism means. At TVC, we believe that baptism is a personal choice. We encourage parents to wait until their child asks to be water baptized. We also encourage you to talk to your children about the time you decided to follow God and your own baptism experience. Parents are the most important factor in a child’s spiritual formation.
