Fun Family Service for Easter Weekend 2020
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality
Genuine growth cannot help but release the life and gifts of God through His people out into the world. In this eight week series, we take a close look at what it means to break from the past and experience true emotional healing.
God never intended for us to live in isolation. We were designed to connect.
Our guest speaker Lenard McElveen talks to about spiritual hygiene and what that means!
First World Problems
In this 2-week series, we look at not just how we handle our money but what our hearts truly long for and where contentment truly comes from.
How can you know if you are off course if you aren’t clear on where you’re going? Enjoy the journey…but have clarity on the destination.
Is this the year for you to step out of your comfort zone and take a chance?
Do You See What I See?
If you are looking, you’ll see God everywhere. From the manger to the mundane, to the messes and joys. Do you see what I see? Take the challenge!
TVC Family Christmas
Thornapple Valley Church Family Christmas Service 2019.
Too much of the joy we could have during the holiday season is lost to the needless, destructive complaining we engage in. Stop the madness! Speak Life Words.
Take a look at who Jesus is through the entire Bible. From Genesis to Revelation.
The Good Stuff
Depending on how you look at it, life can be full of light and good…or darkness and pain. And how you see it determines how you live. In his letter to the Romans, the Apostle Paul brings to light that life in Christ, though often difficult, is filled with all kinds of good stuff.
Intimacy with Jesus
Growing more intimate with Jesus.
Life has a way of subtly stealing from us those things which we claim we want to be and do. Whether it’s an individual or a church family, if you don’t regularly check your course you lose sight of who you are meant to be.
Red Letter Days
When it comes to what Christians believe, the world has no shortage of thoughts and opinions, so let’s stop and see what Jesus has to say. In this series, we take time to read Jesus’ own words.
This is Us
From a distance, family often looks warm and fuzzy. A place of love and tenderness. From within, it often feels painful, diseased, sometimes even hopeless. But there is hope no matter how dark it looks. There is an antidote…one exampled by Jesus Himself.
There is no question about it, everyone wants to win. What should be questioned is what a real winner looks like?
We spend our lives fighting that which is inevitable: death. Are we afraid? Maybe we’re just unclear about what God says…about dying.
Digging out of the ditches we fall into.
Best Year Ever
Our guest Speaker Bill Sanders speaks on looking to God to have our Best Year Ever
A Complicated Christmas
Have you ever noticed that Christmas is complicated? It seems like the older you get the more complicated Christmas gets. What if the story of Christmas wasn’t really complicated at all. What if we got back to making Christmas what it was really all about ... an event that was truly uncomplicated. An event that was good news.
A Christmas Devotion
Wherever you are at in life – you are blessed. Don’t miss it!
Sometimes it feels like no matter what you say, you just aren’t getting through. Something…is disrupting the connection. Nowhere does this seem to happen more than in our prayer lives. In this series we spend time talking about the communication breakdown and how Jesus taught us to pray.
This We Believe
With mankind’s ever expanding knowledge base and all the thoughts and opinions found in the world, it can be hard to know what to believe. Many choose to simply not believe in much of anything. Maybe there’s a little truth in everything. Maybe it’s all just a different way of expressing the same thing. And yet, Christianity has made both outlandish and exclusive claims, and then held on to them for some 2000 years. How can intelligent people believe this? Could it be true?
Eyes Wide Open
Busy days. Painful events. Heartbreak. Often it’s just easier to close our eyes to it all. Because sometimes…life hurts. Many of us live our lives in the dusk, stumbling through our days hoping to avoid more pain. But all the while, we miss the light. Living with eyes open is risky. But it’s where you find life. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” It’s time for all of us to live with “Eyes Wide Open."
What if this life isn’t what we think? What if everything we think is right side up…is actually the upside down? What if our job…was to bring right side up living to an upside down world? According to Jesus, it is.
The words you speak have the power to infect those around you. Either for good or for bad. At times we find ourselves complaining about our circumstances even though that doesn’t change them. We might find ourselves lying about something in our life to make us look better. Even gossiping about those around you. In this series we will talk about how to infect those around you in a positive way with your words.
The Greatest Thing
Life is filled with so much. There’s the good stuff: the beauty of nature, the wonder of deep friendships, the joy of a job well done. And the hard stuff: unexpected losses, pain, disappointment. But the question is, what, in all the things vying for my attention and demanding action, really matters? What is…the greatest thing? God has an answer.
Every been in a conversation where you just wanted to shout “Get to the point!”? Most of us have. Sometimes we just want clear, easy to understand communication. When you read the book of James, you’ll find the author has a wonderful way of getting right to it. No ambiguity. Nothing wishy-washy. Just straightforward instructions on how to live the spiritual life in a healthy way. As we explore the book of James, we’ll find he has a gift for being “blunt”.
In our lives we tend to automate the things that matter the most to us. So what matters most to you?
The Bottom Line
Have you ever stopped in the middle of an activity and asked yourself “Why am I doing this?” It’s probably a question we should be asking more often. Sometimes the “why” gets lost in the busyness of the “what”. But the “why” should always come first. And it should be a touchstone throughout any activity in our lives. Thornapple Valley Church is engaged in many, many things. But they are all driven by the “why”. The bottom line for all we do.
Life is filled with moments. Some we are aware of. Some we miss. This Christmas, you have a choice. Be in the moments…or miss them. Be aware of God’s amazing love…or miss it. Let’s don’t miss this.
A Merry Christmas
The moments that we experience in life don’t always line up like we intended for them to. But could God still be working in those moments?
Most people don’t have a hard time is saying they believe there is a God. But learning to trust that God is altogether different. If you struggle with faith, you aren’t alone. To trust that He is real and present and with you right now…well, that’s a battle. The Bible calls it a fight: Fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12). In this series, we explore this most fundamental aspect of Christianity: Faith.
There are all kinds of voices in the world today. Many of them trying to tell you who you should be and what you should do with your life. But who are you…really? Maybe, before we run to what someone tells us we should become, we should look at who we really are. And there is no better place to turn than to the One who created us. What does God say about you? What is your identity in Him? Don’t let your life be damaged by…Identity Theft.
Almost all of us are crazy busy. We’re doing “stuff”. But is it stuff that matters. Is it stuff makes a difference in a world filled with brokenness and pain? Christians are not called to simply sit and listen to talks on the Bible. They are called, as much as anything…to do something. Something that matters. To this high calling, Thornapple Valley Church is fully committed: Do something…that matters.
Summer 2017|Best Verse Ever
Does God really speak to people today? Can He speak into your life and circumstances? The answer from Christianity is a resounding “yes!” God has spoken, is speaking, and will keep speaking. Join us this summer as we dive into some of the “best verses ever”. Can you hear Him? God is speaking!
Some houses get so damaged by the wear and tear of nature and life that they simply seem beyond repair. While that may be true with a house…it is never true with a home. Families do take hits. There are struggles and hurts and damage. But if you look past the cracks in the walls and the leaky roof, you’ll find something wonderful hidden underneath: the gift of family. Sometimes, it just needs fixing up.
Even the gentlest among us can’t always avoid a fight. There are times you just have to stand up to the bully. Sometimes it’s people. Sometimes it’s spiritual. And sometimes, it’s a fight with “things”. Like temptation or depression. Or lethargy. So…do you have a strategy to win? God does.
Real life is full of potholes and pitfalls. And If we’re not careful, we’ll get so caught up in the minor repairs…that we lose sight of the destination. We forget about who we want to be and where we want our lives to go. Living fully engaged in the stuff that matters will always be messy and unpredictable. But it will also be….amazing. Ready? Engage!
Ever been dazzled by a sunset? Awed by a rainbow? All around us God has left messages of love. An incredible, beautiful work of art. Some see Christianity as just another religion. But the message of Christ in it’s simplest form is an amazing mosaic of truth, hope and joy. In this series we together explore the beauty of the basic tenants of the Christian faith through the Apostles Creed
